A train to drown in
What happened, my friend
saw you drown
drown and rise again.
So, uh, what happened, old man
life turned grey to brown
but we’re still on the same ol’ train.
I drop from twelve to twenty-five
drop dead, yeah, clench the fists
and go like darksome fiend.
Upon a moor, in a fall I dive
tattoo marble across my wrists
say the words I never meant.
And, I, uh, I throw a stone
to hide the past ‘neath a tomb.
And when the marble’s all gone
spitting,
raging,
shivering as hell itself
I fall back in the ol’borne womb.
So say, what happened, my friend
always late and tired for our choices.
I stare in so many words I never meant
hidden beneath a thousand voices.
