If Spot hadn`t barked, John wouldn`t have worken up in the middle of the night

John Smith worked in a bank in London and lived with his dog, Spot. One night, Spot started barking in the middle of the night. John woke up and he couldn`t get back to sleep. The next thing John knew, it was eight o`clock- he had overslept! He got dressed quickly and ran to the station. When he got there, he saw a train and jumped on it- but it was going the wrong way! He go off at the next station and didn`t get to London until 9.15. He called a taxi but it got stuck in a traffic jam. When he got to work, he realised he hadn`t got his wallet with him. He had to borrow ten pounds from his boss, who was quite angry. An hour later, he had lost four million pounds on the currency market. When his boss came to talk to him, she found him asleep in front of his computer. Of course, John lost his job.
