Education in England is compulsory for all children aged between 5 and 16 (the UK Government is planning to change this 5- 1*)
When children start school at 5,they go to Infant School for two years. At the end of Infant School,pupils sit the Key Stage 1 test, also known as SATs (Standard Assessment Test). From the age of 7 to the age of 11 children go to Junior School.Infant School and Junior School are both part of Primary School.Key Stage 2 SATs are taken at the end of Year6, when pupils are aged 10-11.
Secondary School is for students aged 11 to 16 (1*) .The most frequent subjects they study are English,Mathematick, Science,Modern Foreign Languages,Information and Communications Technology (ICT),Geography,History,Citizenship,Religious Education (RE),Design Technology,Art and Design,Music,Sex Education,Careers Education and Physical Education (PE)
At the end of Year 9,at the age of 13-14,students sit their Key stage 3 SATs. These tests cover English,Mathematics and Science. The tests are externally merked and the results for each school are published in performance tables.
