Svishtov is a town in northern Bulgaria. It is located in Veliko Turnovo and is situated on the river Danube. This is the most southern point of the Danube and the southern-most port on the Danube in Bulgaria.

In the vicinity of present-day town of Svishtov in Roman times there was a settlement under the name of Nove (Novae), Decretum Terris founded by the emperor Vespasian on 26 October on 69, having an area of 44 hectares.

On June 15, 1877 at Svishtov main forces and forcing the Russian army crossed the Danube during the Russo-Turkish War. It begins the path to freedom of Bulgaria, Svishtov is released and the first Bulgarian town.

In Svishtov during the Ottoman rule of donated funds is build the first community center in Bulgaria - Elenka and Cyril D. Avramov, in 1856
